In Sao Paulo, Red House also offers extracurricular activities and ESP (Extended School Period) extend students’ school life after regular class hours.

FLEXIBLE EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND ESP (EXTENDED SCHOOL PERIOD) AFTER SCHOOL HOURS.

Programs are flexible and it is possible to choose the number of weekdays desired by families who want to keep their children in an extended period of time at school.

The ESP works on the development of students’ cognitive skills recreationally, respecting the needs and interests of each age group, available from Monday to Friday. There is also the lunch-only option for Toddler and K3 classes.

Red House also promotes Summer Camps and Winter Camps on January and July breaks as options for families who do not go away during school recess. The camps have recreational purposes with a fun program filled with play, games, sports, cooking and entertaining tours.

In Sao Paulo, extracurricular activities are offered to kids over two years old. They were designed to develop different skills in students and stimulate interpersonal relationships among children. The classes are taught in English by Red House teachers and in Portuguese by partnering teachers, experts in their fields. The minimum number of students per class is of 4 and the maximum is 12.

Acting

Acting can take children to an underexplored world: self-knowledge. When creativity, communication and imagination are enthused, students tend to better learn how to deal with diverse situations. With fun and dynamic classes, the course stimulates children to work in groups and improve their interpersonal relationships through disinhibition exercises, improvisation and other fun activities. At the end of the year, students perform in a play to parents and the school community.

Basketball

The dynamics of a basketball match encourages children to make decisions quickly and drives them to bond socially, in addition to promoting agile reflexes and improving concentration. Like other sports, basketball improves muscle endurance, body balance and protects the cardiovascular system.

Board Games

Board games are a worldwide practice, regardless of place or time, they have always been present as a way to educate, have fun and compete.  In class, students are introduced to different games from different locations around the world so they can work on their reasoning, strategy, and social interaction skills, helping them in their development as students and people.

Capoeira

Capoeira is a cultural manifestation that joins music and exercise together.  It develops strength, elasticity, balance, rhythm and motor coordination, providing body self-knowledge as an instrument of self-expression and communication.

Chess

More than just a hobby, chess is a science as well as an art. By taking chess lessons, one of the most famous sports in the world, students learn how to develop strategies, to think in unconventional ways, to expand their knowledge as well as to interact in new ways with students at other levels.

Figure Skating

Skating stimulates concentration and balance, and it is one of the most complete sports. The main objective of the course is discipline, coordination and leisure. Lessons also contribute to student integration.

Financial Literacy

It is a combination of awareness, knowledge, skill, attitude, and behavior necessary to make sound financial decisions. Guitar

First contact with the popular guitar and its basic techniques with fun exercises and musical activities for the creation of a group repertoire. Learning a musical instrument can bring countless benefits for a child.  More than just a new way to express yourself, practicing an instrument sharpens concentration, increases memory and motor coordination, improves reading abilities, promote social skills, among others.

Hatha Yoga

Classes are lighthearted and planned so that students can learn and experience initial self-centering moments, posture sequences (asanas), gentle stretching, body awareness and its functions. Through relaxation activities and initiation in meditation practices, children learn to recognize how the mind works and how to deal with negative emotions through conscious breathing while learning ethical values in a fun and easy-going approach. In addition, meditation practice and respiratory techniques in children promote concentration, calm, self-perception and self-esteem development, jointly reducing aggression and anxiety. In this way, the practice benefits emotional and interpersonal behaviors, helping indiscipline decrease therefore positively influencing student learning.

Jewish Culture

Jewish history and its traditions are taught in the course in playful way. Children learn about the values, festivals, music, customs and principles of Jewish culture.
Ms Carolina Zyman has a bachelor degree in Psychology from PUC-SP and has been an educator for over 10 years in Jewish instruction. In 2007, she took a 10-month training course in leadership and Jewish education in Jerusalem, Israel. Back to Brazil, she created and coordinated a pioneer project in Sao Paulo in complementary Jewish tutoring at home. She was also the director of a non-formal educational program for young Jewish men in one of Sao Paulo´s largest communities. Today, she is a teacher at the Alef Peretz and an Israeli folk dance choreographer to 7 to 14-year-old students.

Judo

Kung Fu

For the Chinese, martial arts training is the act of perfecting fight moves and everything else done in life. Ultimately, it is about being aware of one’s own choices and self determination in goal persuits, as well as self discipline and organization. Through martial art moves and playful challenges, this course encourages reflection on one’s own attitudes, simultaneously encouraging students to cultivate four main virtues: bravery, kindness, wisdom and integrity.

Little Kickers

A global project and taught in English, this activity uses football as a learning tool not only for motor skills such as coordination and agility in a playful and fun way, but also for non-cognitive skills such as determination, motivation, confidence, discipline and team spirit. Focused on problem-solving and taught by two coaches, the activity encourages students to evolve their attention and listening skills. Participation in creative and fun activities, which include specific actions and movements, helps the child to acquire body control, while working on their coordination, balance and ample motricity.

Musicalization

In early childhood, stimulating activities can produce changes in brain structure and, in this context, music serves as an important forerunner in the development of children´s language and expression skills, intelligence and motor coordination. In this course,  children learn about musical instruments, their different sounds, rhythms and melodies.

The students will conquer basic understanding of this traditional craft and of the posture and dedication of a true Pastry Chef in a creative way. Paula Castro Ballet (mandatory twice a week)

One of the most renowned dance studios in Brazil will teach ballet lessons at Red House.
With a history spanning more than 40 years, Paula Castro Ballet is the exclusive representative of the National Ballet School of Cuba in Brazil (ENBC/BR) and a pioneering provider of official dance classes in Brazil. Hence, it complies with the standards and requirements of the State Department of Education. One of the main advantages of an official school compared to unregulated courses is its curriculum, which provides a comprehensive vision of dance as a performing art through its wide range of genres and styles. In addition to complying with the minimum curriculum, the Paula Castro Ballet classes aim to develop creativity, disinhibition and self-confidence.

Pop Dance

Pop dance lessons are intended to develop the habit of physical exercise in children by working on their notion of spatial orientation, body laterality and the limits of their own bodies. Pop dance contributes to respiratory conditioning and control, motor coordination and flexibility. It is a relaxed and joyful manner for children to learn choreography and be challenged to explore creativity by creating their own choreographies.

Rhythmic Gymnastics

An Olympic sport characterized by challenge and elegance. Its differential is the overcoming of limits, emotional control and trying new situations. It is composed of acrobatic elements such as somersaults and dance elements such as jumps.

School Newspaper

The course foresees the development of activities that take place at all levels of a print newspaper, according to the skills and interests of each student: photography, online research, graphic design, polling, interviewing, writing and text editing. The paper prepared by the class is related to school community events, as well as to news about sports, culture, amusements, among other topics, with the goal of stimulating our students’ interest in different areas.

Short Film

In this course taught in English, students will learn to see and hear in a different and new way, and express these skills in the form of a short film. The increasing use of mobile phone screens and computers is influencing our ability to hear and see, and people are far from using their full potential for sight and hearing. In this course, the Etievan Center team will use Photography and Music to develop these capabilities in new languages and new ways of communicating, while the group produces a short film.

Tennis

The tennis course was developed to help children boost their learning so that they can develop motor skills and also learn this sport modality rules. Tennis helps in strengthening the immune system and encourages socialization.

Volleyball

This sports modality makes the whole body move, improving its functionality, cardiorespiratory system and muscle-strengthening. Volleyball helps in everyday activities by improving motor coordination, flexibility, strength, and aerobic and anaerobic endurance.
